Mission Shakti

Mission Shakti is a comprehensive initiative launched by the Government of India with the objective of ensuring the safety and empowerment of women in the country. It is being implemented during the 15th Finance Commission period, from 2021–22 to 2025–26. The primary goal of this scheme is to ensure women’s safety and make them economically self-reliant.

Mission Shakti is divided into two main sub-schemes:

1. Sambal – For Women’s Safety

  • One Stop Center (OSC): Provides medical assistance, legal aid, temporary shelter, police help, and psychological counseling under one roof for women who have faced violence.
  • Women Helpline (181): A toll-free 24×7 helpline offering emergency assistance to women in distress.
  • Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP): A national campaign aimed at promoting the protection and education of girl children.
  • Nari Adalat: Community forums at the gram panchayat level where women collectively find solutions to minor issues faced by women.

2. Samarthya – For Women’s Empowerment

  • Shakti Sadan: A combined version of the former Swadhar Greh and Ujjwala Homes, offering protection and rehabilitation to women in distress.
  • Sakhi Niwas (Working Women Hostel): Provides safe accommodation for working women.
  • Palna: Daycare centers for the children of working mothers.
  • Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY): A scheme providing financial support to pregnant women.

  • Ensure the protection and rehabilitation of women.
  • Improve women’s access to government services.
  • Raise awareness about women’s rights.
  • Promote the economic empowerment of women.
